Preface
Redemption is the central theme throughout the Bible, revealing God's incredible love and His plan for the salvation for all man kind. The Bible beautifully presents God's story of redemption through the death of His Son.
In the Old Testament, we see glimpses of redemption through various foreshadowings and prophecies. God's people experienced temporary redemption through the sacrificial system, where the blood of animals served as a temporary covering for their sins. However, this system pointed forward to a more complete and permanent redemption that would be accomplished through the coming Messiah.
The revelation of God's redemption plan is found in the New Testament. God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross as the final sacrifice for our sins. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus achieved the work of redemption once and for all.
The apostle Paul beautifully expresses this truth in Romans 3:23-24: "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." Here, Paul emphasizes that all the world has fallen short of God's glory due to sin. However, God, out of His boundless grace, offers justification and redemption through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
The word "redeemed" signifies the act of being bought back or set free from the bondage of sin. Jesus paid the price for our redemption with His own precious blood. As the Bible declares in 1 Peter 1:18-19, "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”
God's story of redemption reveals His unfathomable love and mercy. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we can receive forgiveness of sins and be reconciled to God. This redemption brings us into a new relationship with our Heavenly Father, granting us the assurance of eternal life and the hope of experiencing His abundant love and grace.
As we begin to understand the story of God's redemption, let us respond with gratitude, awe, and desire to live in obedience to Him. May we continually marvel at the sacrifice of Jesus, who willingly laid down His life so that we could be redeemed and restored into a right relationship with God.
